Costa Rica is running 100% on renewable energy. Congrats Costa Rica! They have achieved an amazing milestone in the history of green energy. The heavy rains in the Central American region have allowed the country to completely renounce fossil fuels, and to feed almost entirely on the electricity generated from 4 hydroelectric plants – with a little extra help from geothermal, solar green energy and wind projects. Hydroelectric plants produced 80% of Costa Rica’s energy. About 10% of the energy was generated by the geothermal plants (financed with loans from European and Japanese banks)
